Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
*Optional training delivery method for this course: Remote Online Training (ROT) or Face-to-Face (F2F) !

COURSE DESCRIPTION
To improve a business process, the process must be measurable, and the key to that measurement is a reliable and accurate measurement system. Measurement System Analysis (or MSA) is a study that evaluates a measurement system for an improvement project’s critical-to-quality characteristic. Its Gauge Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R) studies are used to quantify the precision of a measurement system.
Quality professionals know that measuring manufactured products is critical to maintaining the customer specification. They also know that measuring products is necessary for statistical process control systems designed to improve the manufacturing process itself. The data is only worthwhile if the measurement system itself is adequate. A proper GR&R study will tell engineers/managers if the measurement system is acceptable for its intended use. The GR&R study also shows which part of the measurement system (e.g. the products itself, the appraiser taking the measurements, and equipment used to perform the measurement) is contributing the most to the variation of the measurements and helps engineers/managers plan improvements to the system.
This is a Statistical Process Control (SPC) Level 2 course. It will assist Managers/Engineers to gain an in-depth understanding of their measurement process. This includes common MSA terms like precision, accuracy, bias, linearity and stability, and the specific steps to take to complete a GR&R study. This training program is a MUST for those who are involved in calibration of instruments and/or embarking on LEAN Six Sigma initiatives.
Participants will get to take away Value-added MS Excel templates that will greatly assist them to tabulate the detail calculations and charting in an easy, fast and accurate manner.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
-
- Describe the overall concepts, principles and methods of “Measurement System Analysis (MSA)”
- Define the different sources of variation present in a measurement system.
- Define precision, accuracy, bias, linearity, and stability and describe how the terms are applied.
- Describe how and why GR&R studies are used.
- Set up data collection plan and perform GR&R studies for :
– Variable gauge using Average & Range Control Charts and ANOVA Methods
– Attribute gauge using Tabular Method - Decide whether a measurement system is acceptable for it intended use.
- Use MS Excel template to conduct GR&R studies using own data from their workplace.
- Take positive actions to improve the measurement process at the workplace.
CERTIFICATION
No Certification.
Certificate of Achievement (for those who scored 80% and above for post-test) or Certificate of Attendance.
